al fresco

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Had dinner outside for the first time last night. Tyrone made some sort of shrimp/dried red pepper/red cabbage/green pepper/ginger pasta to celebrate.

I had to resist the urge to get out my clippers and go after the tiny trees re-sprouting suckers in the yard before dinner.

Spent the rest of the night finishing up patterns to submit. One of the patterns directly relates to Colorado’s new co-state song, John Denver’s Rocky Mountain High. YIPPEE! I almost got teary when they played it on NPR this morning.

Also spent time figuring out that the Federal Universal Service Fee is NOT the same thing as the Federal Telecommunications Excise Tax. Best advice, take the standard deduction for that refund. Hopefully all of our taxes are gathered now.

Finally, I’ve been obsessed with how to make a crocheted table soaked/cast in epoxy resin as seen in USA Today (last week, second item down).

The new Knitty magazine is up for Spring 2007!

They’ve got space invaders too.  Such a great game to knit.  Aaaah, maybe someday I will knit my own katamari.

woolly boolly

Monday, March 12th, 2007

Found these really cool wool bins and pots on the internet. If only I could make wool containers that thin. Most of my felted wool is pretty thick.

Added a finished object to the gallery. After we got married, I knitted Tyrone this sweater. It’s from Rebecca Magazine #30. I used Berroco Pure Merino in Baker’s Chocolate. The pattern suggested instead the $25/ball cashmere! that would have ended up being a $350 sweater? (click the picture for a larger view!)

How do you like the new blog look? It took hours of dragon slaying, and I still don’t think it looks completely right.

Guess who else has a new look? My husband Tyrone Jaeger! I’ve relinquished control, and showed him how to add and update content.

I’ve got the gallery showing random images on other pages, and I’m going to start using that for thumbnails on the blog. Let’s start with a finished picture of the Bag’o'Bags from _Craftivity_, pattern by Diane Bromberg.

Later tonight, taxes, editing the photo shoot, and Battlestar Galactica.

Pattern writing and submission, embroidery and embroidery alternatives

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

Spent today writing one pattern, re-writing another.  I didn’t get any of the pictures taken.  Looks like Tyrone is going to  help me tomorrow.

I’m looking for places  to send these patterns off too.  The knitty.com deadline is March 15, and so is magknits.com.  I don’t know if my patterns are appropriate for either.

Tomorrow, I think I’m going to write something up for readymade.com, and another thing for instructables.com.

I’m also attracted to supernaturale.com.  They have a really cool article on crafting your wedding.  I think I have a bunch to add to to it, and maybe even some fun failures.  I tried to make a 1930s deco bias-cut gown, but apparently in the 1930s,  I have a size 6 chest and size 14 hips.  The dress was also backless, so there was no way to structurally engineer a way to rectify the dress.  It was a good learning process.

There is another project I’m working on where embroidery doesn’t quite cut it, so I have a nice little experiment with crewling coming up next week.  Here is a bit of embroidery I did with a kit my friend Sarah gave me:   scooter needle point * sublime stiching

It is from Sublime Stitching.  Click on the picture to enlarge it!

Ty and I took a walk around Holmes Lake today.  It is so nice and warm.  I want to start cutting back grasses with the hedge trimmer already, but it is too wet.

recycle/reuse

Check out this picture of the bag (with only one handle right now) from the Craftivity book!

recycled bag

Finished pictures soon, I’m sure. Thanks to Katie for coming to my aid with more bags. The Sunmart bags are adding some nice green and yellow touches.

Get to break out the recording equipment this weekend. No, not another rock album…one of the publications that has printed Tyrone’s short stories and poetry wants him to record one for a podcast or something like that. We are going to record 3 or 4 and then decide which one sounds the best. I’ll post a link here once it is up. I may get his new website up over the weekend. We may eventually put up the unused tracks there.

phantom pictures

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Sorry to disappoint, but I had a number of pictures to put up today of various past finished objects, and of wonderful gifted/found needlework objects.  This morning I went to unload them off of my camera and they were GONE!   Luckily I can still take pictures of everything, but it was a weird experience.

Knitted once again with Katie last night.   She’s still working on her cashmerino sweater Jaeger (not me) pattern on tiny needles.  I hope she gets it done during sweater season.

On the seed starting front, the thyme is up!  If the parsley isn’t up by this weekend, I’m replanting it.  Last night Tyrone and I scheemed about what sort of container garden we will have.   We still may buy some sort of share at Ross Brockley’s organic farm.  He has meat sometimes too, but most of his customers are vegetarians, so no one seems to know much about that.  I’m happy just planting some spinach, lettuce, and herbs…maybe a tomato plant.

Leaving you with the last of the peace pictures…

 All sorts of peace

Gave most of these away this weekend, so I’ll have to work on some more!

Pocket full of Craft Weekend

Monday, March 5th, 2007

Made more Peace Cuffs and gave a bunch away.

More Peace Cuffs

Knitting all of those cuffs gave me an idea.  I’m so excited about the idea, but can’t share yet, sorry!

Worked on the bag crocheted of plastic bags from Craftivity: 40 projects for a DIY Lifestyle. Guess what?  I don’t have enough bags.  I know, the whole point is to use the new recycled bag instead of using all of those plastic shopping bags, but I need more bags.  Doubling the produce bags seems to work.  I guess we’ll always be using those.

I was stocking up pink Victoria’s Secret bags for a project like this 3 years ago, and now I can’t find them!

Made Chili Blanco soup.  This time I doubled the beans, and it was much better.

Also worked on another special, super-secret project that involved dyeing fabric in the washing machine. I didn’t know you could do that, but luckily, my husband had some experience with it.  Here’s a teaser picture:

My first pattern, for Peace Cuffs, is up!

 Peace Wristbands

I’m making these for the rally in Lincoln at 1pm on March 17th.
