These are creepy outdoor pictures. Why? Green grass at the end of October in Nebraska.

Aran Skirt update: row 91 of 244 on the second piece!

No-Picture update

Friday, October 19th, 2007

I’ve got a massive amount of pictures from this past week, but birthday activites kept me from getting them transfered.

Update on the Aran Skirt: The first piece is done! Cast-on for the second piece.

This weekend Tyrone and I are going to forgo going to the Nebraska v Tex A&M game, even though it is the return of TO.  It is just too painful to watch. That’s why I’m glad it is only going to be on the radio.

We’re also going to power-wash the dome in preparation for more foam to be added over the windows and other seams.  It isn’t anything too exciting.

The ghost of football past

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

This year Tyrone and I got student tickets to the Nebraska Cornhuskers games. Last weekend was not a happy time for us. The Huskers were beat by Missouri 41-6, and the Broncos were beat by the Chargers 41-3. But these are pictures from happier times:

Here is the view from our seats:

Here is a pre-USC game peace rally picture.  The USC fans were really wonderful, and some even joined the march.  On the way back to the car, some USC fans even stopped us to ask if we got on ESPN Gameday.  We told them it was a pro-Huskers/pro-peace sign.  They were all very excited for us, and I think the were surprised to see anything like that in Nebraska.  One kind older Trojan even remarked, “I guess there are a few things that are more important than football.  Keep up the good work.”

Aran Skirt Update #3

Splitting my time between crafts. Update on Aran Skirt, up to row 150:

In other craft news, there has been a call for Christmas Ornaments. On December 9th at Duffy’s in Lincoln, there will be a silent auction of the ornaments to benefit the Cedar’s Home.  Looking for fun ornaments that may fetch a good price.    There are the standard crocheted snowflakes.  One of my favorite ornaments is the crocheted ice skating boots with a paperclip for the skate (3rd pattern down).  I think I could make something cool out of flashy recycled plastic, but it will have to be of my own invention.

Finally, one of my favorite recycled Christmas ornaments: shotgun shells.

Post your favorite recycled or crafted Christmas/Hanukkah/Festivus Ornament!

Quilt Update (aka charmin II)

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

Every so often, the quilting bug bites me again. This is an update from this post.

This weekend, I made a few more irregular-shaped blocks, and tried to hand sew them together, and to the existing portion of the blanket.

Here is my second attempt at the feather stitch, and a little bit of herringbone stitch on the side.

Here is just a regular stitch in pink.

Tomorrow, I’ll have some more blanket stitching, chain stitching, and the elusive wheatear stitch.

Aran Skirt update #2

Friday, October 5th, 2007

This skirt is taking a long time, but I’m really getting into it. This is a shot at row 135. One side is about 244 rows….so I have another side to do after this.

Cutting down all of the trees hanging over the dome this weekend. Getting ready to re-foam some of the seams on the dome, and to get foam “eyebrows” put over the doors. Hopefully, it will make the dome look more hobbit-hole-like. Possibly starting the power-washing too.
