Finished Knits: Airy Wrap Around

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

Finished the sweater last night at Katie’s.  It still needs to be blocked,  but here’s the pic (click for full-size, I may reduce the size soon1481kb pic!):

Airy Wrap-Around from_Fitted_Knits_

Working on some knitting charts.  I used some of the space invaders chart from another site, but I didn’t like the results.  Eight bit pixmaps do not translate directly to knitting, so I’ll be putting up some of those charts later this week.  Also working on a tiny peace chart for wristbands.   There’s going to be a peace rally at 1PM on March 17th in Lincoln, and I’d like to make one for all of our friends who go.  They’ll be knitted in Support Our Troops Yellow, just like Tony Orlando prescribed.

Flying squirrels, french cinema, and Oracular Divination

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Worked on the husband’s webpage for the past two days.  I’m not linking to it because the changes have not gone live yet.  Created my first template, and used Neil Gaimain’s Oracular Diviniation Machine to guide me on my design.  (I onced used Brian Eno’s Oblique Strategies, but they apply less to non-musical inspiration every year.) Tyrone has a wonderful picture of an industrial deteriorating skyline (street signs, broken-down roller coasters), and in the hazy backround are the Colorado Rocky Mountains.  I’ve done some wacky websites in my past, and so the main theme of this one is to keep it simple.  Tyrone’s going to have to manage it after it goes live, so that will help him too.

I didn’t know the website would turn out to be so blue, but it definetley suits Tyrone.  Look for it going live either Friday or Saturday!  I’ll link to it then.

In knitting news, finished 20 more inches of mohair lace.  Seamed the arms so I can wear it while I’m knitting.  I’m 10 inches from being DONE!

Oscar Weekend

Monday, February 26th, 2007

Usually I spend much of my time at the sewing machine on Oscar Weekend.  This year I knitted ~50 inches of mohair lace instead.  I should be done with the Airy Wrap-Around on Wednesday.  I ran out of the soft blue yarn (like I thought I would), but luckily I had enough to finish a particular section.  I really like the substitution.

On the other crafty side, I can show you a preview of the seedling starter (aka the original solar collector) I made last weekend.  My friend Sarah gave me one for Christmas, and so far I started cilantro and the lemon basil is coming up now.  I planted parsley and thyme  in these:  Seed Starters

The thyme is already up after 7 days!  I planed some rosemary in an old bubble bath bottle yesterday.

real world avalanche

I’ve been swamped at work, and when that happens, posting to the blog suffers.  There will be some new pictures up, and maybe some site rennovation this weekend becase it is supposed to blizzard here again on Sunday.

Two nights of knitting have yielded mucho sleeve progress on the airy-wrap around.  If I could knit through lunch today, I’d be started on the front.

My husband has been working on his own website content, and even has some ideas on a theme, so maybe I’ll be working on that this weekend.

Oh, and maybe band practice.  Did I mention it is supposed to blizzard?  Maybe I should make soup instead.

I’ll leave you with a newly-posted pic of Jackson’s Beer Can hat.  Itended up being very1997 cat-in-the-hat-ish.  I crocheted it out of the dreaded Red Heart Acrylic.  The super-high-skill level/super-lazy writing pattern:

1. HDC around each can panel (Jackson cut the holes). RED

2. HDC all of the panels together. WHITE

3. HDC once around the top and bottom of the panel band. WHITE

4. on the topside, HDC around and around alternating colors and subjectively decreasing.

5. on the brim, HDC around in RED, subjectively increasing.

He wanted one in Green Bay colors too. If I were to make one, I’d use 5 panels instead of 6 so the hat wasn’t so big, maybe put some sort of elasticity in there.
