to the equinox

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

When we first got to Arkansas in June, the back deck was in the sun all day. I was amazed that the space on the north side of a tall building got any sun. It was a perfect place for a container garden. As the days started getting shorter the shadow of the tower started covering the garden, the tomatoes started to wilt, and the okra seedlings went limp.

This week I moved all of the plants to the south side of the house. Everything is much better now.

The garden looks much smaller out in front of the place. I’m glad I didn’t start it in the parking lot, I would have planted too many vegetables and herbs.

phantom pictures

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Sorry to disappoint, but I had a number of pictures to put up today of various past finished objects, and of wonderful gifted/found needlework objects.  This morning I went to unload them off of my camera and they were GONE!   Luckily I can still take pictures of everything, but it was a weird experience.

Knitted once again with Katie last night.   She’s still working on her cashmerino sweater Jaeger (not me) pattern on tiny needles.  I hope she gets it done during sweater season.

On the seed starting front, the thyme is up!  If the parsley isn’t up by this weekend, I’m replanting it.  Last night Tyrone and I scheemed about what sort of container garden we will have.   We still may buy some sort of share at Ross Brockley’s organic farm.  He has meat sometimes too, but most of his customers are vegetarians, so no one seems to know much about that.  I’m happy just planting some spinach, lettuce, and herbs…maybe a tomato plant.

Leaving you with the last of the peace pictures…

 All sorts of peace

Gave most of these away this weekend, so I’ll have to work on some more!

Oscar Weekend

Monday, February 26th, 2007

Usually I spend much of my time at the sewing machine on Oscar Weekend.  This year I knitted ~50 inches of mohair lace instead.  I should be done with the Airy Wrap-Around on Wednesday.  I ran out of the soft blue yarn (like I thought I would), but luckily I had enough to finish a particular section.  I really like the substitution.

On the other crafty side, I can show you a preview of the seedling starter (aka the original solar collector) I made last weekend.  My friend Sarah gave me one for Christmas, and so far I started cilantro and the lemon basil is coming up now.  I planted parsley and thyme  in these:  Seed Starters

The thyme is already up after 7 days!  I planed some rosemary in an old bubble bath bottle yesterday.
